The Magic of Comic-Con, All Year Round
*The museum will be temporarily closing exhibits from August 23 to September 20, 2024, in preparation for the upcoming headline exhibit, The Myth of Superheroes: From Antiquities to Contemporary Art. However, the Museum Shop will remain open Monday – Saturday throughout this period.
Comic-Con Museum, Balboa Park’s newest addition, offers fans a chance to see a world-class collection by day and join an exciting community by night. Visitors can experience exhibitions, programs and events featuring comics and popular art drawn from across the Comic-Con universe. The world-class Comic–Con Museum in San Diego is a gateway to popular art, culture, and life-long learning!
As part of Comic Con, the world renowned comics and popular arts convention, the Comic-Con Museum is a participatory space focused on bringing together diverse audiences for shared vibrant experiences featuring comics, film, science/fiction, fantasy, TV shows, books, video games, anime, or other related popular arts. With immersive exhibits that change seasonally, hands-on STEAM based art making activities, panels, movie screenings, and other dynamic programming, you will always find something new and exciting to explore.

The Myth of Superheroes – World Premiere Exhibition Opening September 2024
This exhibition is an invitation to explore an incredible world where people can fly, read minds, control time and the magnetic field, climb walls, and work magic. It transports the myths and legends of the past to the present day: from Hercules to Superman, from the Amazons to Wonder Woman, and from Mercury to the Flash. While the legends change guise, they keep faith in their mission to guide new generations toward a better future, where action and battle are the other side of a coin that demands morality and responsibility.
Border Blitz: Artistas del Cómic de Tijuana®
This event is being featured in celebration of the World Design Capital San Diego-Tijuana, a year-long series of events and programs that will showcase the local border region.
- The exhibit will feature the art of art of Tijuana artists Charles Glaubitz, Alejandra Yépiz Portillo, and Urbano Mata, showing their diverse stories and perspectives.
Collaboration(s)! A Journey with John Jennings
This exhibit explores the work of John Jennings, an Eisner Award-winning comic artist and author who is also a professor of media and cultural studies at the University of California, Riverside.
- Jennings runs a company that publishes graphic novels focusing on the experiences of people of color.
Becoming Betty Boop
This exhibit highlight the history and evolution of the iconic cartoon character that was first introduced in the early 1930s.
- The exhibit will feature a mix of never-before-seen artifacts, artwork and animated films.
