The Museo de las Californias is a museum located within the facilities of the Tijuana Cultural Center , in the city of Tijuana
Inaugurated on February 24, 2000 as an expansion to the Tijuana Cultural Center, the Museo de las Californias has a permanent exhibition of objects representative of regional history, ranging from prehistory to the second half of the 20th century. It was designed on a 2,200 square meter helical ramp and is the only cultural space in the city that shows a historical synthesis and incorporates interactive resources to the traditional museographic discourse. When visiting, you’ll discover a fascinating collection of historical artifacts, including maps, tools and journals going back to the 16th-century expeditions of the legendary conquistador Hernán Cortés. Its main focus, though, is on fossils from the local Sierra de la Laguna range.
It consists of eight permanent rooms: California before California; First European explorers; Missions and missionaries; Territories and borders; The porfiriato; Mexican Revolution The years of the post-revolution; and Environment. It has a temporary exhibition hall, offers guided tours in Spanish and English, dramatized tours, conferences, and calls for a children’s drawing contest and a youth historical composition contest.
