San Diego’s WNDR Museum introduces a wide array of innovative and interactive art exhibits in the heart of downtown!
Walking inside the WNDR Museum in downtown San Diego stimulated my curiosity
unlike any museum I have been to lately. I immediately felt like I was going on an art
adventure.
The art was not simply laid out in front of me. I had to walk through hanging tubes of fiber optic light, peek inside holes in the wall, engage with AI, and so much more!
For my kids, 10 and 7, to say that this was one of their favorite museums means something special and encourages me to recommend this space to everyone!
It took us about one and a half hours to experience all the installations on two levels at
the museum. We had many favorite pieces including the Interoptics room filled with
hanging tubes of fiber optic light where my kids said they felt like they were underwater
swimming with jellyfish.
We also enjoyed INSIDEOUT by the Leigh Sachwiz Studios that invited us to sit down inside a house while a storm was simulated around us. It reminded us of storms in Scotland and Ireland that can be loud and intense one minute and calm the next.
There were two digital pieces that my kids loved playing with and could have kept their interest for hours. My daughter loved Untitled, By You an AI art system by Wolfbear that invites visitors to describe their image in plain text that will be generated into an image by AI. She was curious to see what a monkey playing soccer looked like so we got some really funny pictures of sporty monkeys.
My son had fun playing One Minute by OseanWorld a digital art piece where you travel through different portals inspired by the art of Yayoi Kusama.
WNDR is a great place to meet a friend and have a coffee and a snack at their café and shop in their fun museum store. We went on a Friday morning and there was street parking, but If you don’t find anything on the street there is a parking lot on Market and Sixth. Have fun at WNDR Museum and take your time engaging with all the artwork!
