Kids Go Free to San Diego African American Museum of Fine Arts!
The San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art (SDAAMFA), in partnership with the San Diego History Center, presents San Diego’s Lost Neighborhoods, now open in Balboa Park.
This immersive exhibition explores San Diego communities—including Julian, City Heights, the Gaslamp Quarter, La Jolla, Chollas View, Southcrest, and MLK Way—that were displaced or transformed by redlining, freeway construction, and other discriminatory policies. Through augmented reality, oral histories, and archival materials, San Diego’s Lost Neighborhoods brings these communities and their stories back into view, examining a part of the region’s history that continues to shape San Diego today.
Families can also continue exploring SDAAMFA’s in-person and online exhibitions that highlight African American artists and stories, offering inspiration and education for all ages.
